Ordering custom apparel should feel simple, even if this is your first time. Below are answers to the questions we hear most from businesses, schools, teams, events, fundraisers, and organizations across Winterset, Waukee, the Des Moines metro, and Central Iowa.
Not sure where to start? Send us your idea, quantity, deadline, and any artwork you have. We will help you choose the right apparel, decoration method, and next step.
Get a Free QuoteOrdering & Minimums
Minimums depend on the service, product, and decoration method.
Screen printing is usually the best value for orders of 24 pieces or more, especially for t-shirts, hoodies, uniforms, event shirts, and bulk apparel. DTF printing is a flexible option for smaller orders, detailed artwork, full-color designs, and mixed garment orders because it does not require traditional screens.
Embroidery does not require a minimum order, but quantity can affect the final price. Sublimated jerseys may vary by team or project on the first order, with no minimums for future orders. Promotional product minimums vary by item — we recommend checking the catalog or contacting us for help choosing the right product.
If you are unsure which option fits your order, send us your idea, quantity, and deadline. We will recommend the most cost-effective approach.
Yes. Most orders can include mixed sizes — for example, a range from small through 3XL or 4XL, depending on garment availability.
In many cases you can also mix garment styles, such as t-shirts and hoodies, or adult and youth sizes. Pricing may vary if different garments, colors, print sizes, decoration methods, or print locations require different production steps.
Mixing garment colors may also be possible depending on the design and decoration method. We will review those details with you during the quoting and proofing process.
We recommend ordering garments through JCA so we can confirm quality, availability, decoration compatibility, sizing options, and replacement availability if needed. This helps protect your order and allows us to produce the best possible finished product.
If you have a specific brand, style, or item in mind, send us the details and we can help source the right option.
Turnaround & Rush Orders
Most custom apparel orders are completed within 10-14 days after proof approval.
Turnaround time can vary based on order size, garment availability, artwork readiness, decoration method, and the time of year. Larger orders, specialty items, sublimated jerseys, promotional products, and webstore orders may require additional time.
If you have a firm event date, tournament, school deadline, fundraiser, employee launch, or company event, let us know right away. We will help plan the order so you have your items when you need them.
Yes. Rush orders are available depending on our production schedule, garment availability, artwork readiness, and your deadline.
Our standard rush turnaround is typically 3-5 business days when the order details allow. If you need something quickly, contact us as soon as possible with your event date, quantity, apparel needs, and artwork. We will let you know what is realistic and recommend the fastest option that still protects the quality of your order.
Yes. We carry stock of standard t-shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies in basic colors. If you need same-day or quick-turn apparel, reach out to see what items we currently have on hand. Stock availability changes, but having basic apparel in-house gives us more flexibility for urgent orders, event needs, and last-minute projects.
Artwork & Proofs
Vector files are preferred whenever possible because they can be resized cleanly without losing quality. Preferred file types include:
- AI
- EPS
- SVG
- High-resolution PNG
- High-resolution JPG
If you do not have one of those file types, send us the best version you have. A screenshot, photo, old design, rough sketch, or basic idea may still be enough to get started. For DTF printing, a high-quality image can often work well.
That is okay. You do not need perfect artwork to start an order.
JCA includes graphic design support at no cost, so we can help clean up your artwork, prepare your logo, create a simple layout, or turn an idea into something ready for production. Send us what you have — whether that is a logo, sketch, screenshot, old shirt, business card, or written idea — and we will help determine the next step.
Before production begins, you will receive a proof through our customer portal. Your proof shows your design, placement, colors, garment details, and other important order information. Production does not begin until the proof is approved.
Before approving, carefully check:
- Spelling
- Names and numbers
- Logo placement
- Print or embroidery location
- Ink or thread colors
- Garment color
- Sizes and quantities
- Any special instructions
Once the proof is approved, we move your order into production based on the approved details.
Decoration Methods
Yes. You do not need to know whether your order should be screen printed, embroidered, printed with DTF, sublimated, or handled another way.
Tell us what you are making, how many pieces you need, what the apparel is for, and when you need it. We will recommend the decoration method that makes the most sense for your design, quantity, budget, and timeline.
Screen printing is usually the best option for larger apparel orders, bold designs, simple color layouts, team shirts, event shirts, and business apparel ordered in bulk. It is durable, clean, and cost-effective when the quantity makes sense.
DTF printing is a great option for smaller orders, full-color artwork, detailed designs, and projects that include multiple garment types or colors. Since DTF does not require traditional screens, it can be a flexible choice when screen printing is not the best fit.
We will help you choose the best method before production begins.
Embroidery is a great choice when you want a professional, polished look. It works especially well for:
- Polos
- Hats
- Jackets
- Quarter-zips
- Bags
- Workwear
- Business apparel
- Staff uniforms
Embroidery is often the best option for companies, schools, organizations, and teams that want apparel with a clean, long-lasting logo application.
Sublimation is a strong option for custom jerseys and uniforms, especially when you want a fully custom design. It is commonly used for:
- Team jerseys
- Uniforms
- Player names
- Player numbers
- All-over designs
- Performance apparel
- Club & school gear
- Tournament gear
Sublimation timelines and minimums can vary by project, so contact us early if you are ordering for a season, tournament, or team deadline.
Custom Webstores
Custom webstores make group apparel orders easier for teams, schools, businesses, fundraisers, booster clubs, events, and organizations. Instead of collecting paper forms, sizes, and payments by hand, a custom webstore gives your group an online place to order selected apparel. The typical process:
- You tell us what the store is for.
- We help choose apparel and decoration options.
- We prepare the designs and product lineup.
- The store opens for online orders.
- Customers place their own orders.
- The store closes on the agreed deadline.
- JCA produces the full order.
- Orders are sorted, folded, and bagged for pickup, delivery, shipping, or group distribution.
Depending on the complexity of the store, we can often have it up and running the same day designs are confirmed.
We typically recommend keeping a webstore open for about two weeks. This gives people enough time to place an order without leaving the store open so long that they forget. Shorter or longer order windows may be used depending on the project, deadline, and type of group.
After a webstore closes, most orders are completed within 10–14 days.
Quick-turn webstores may also be available. For example, school state qualifier stores or deadline-driven event stores can sometimes be produced the same week, depending on the apparel, artwork, order volume, and production schedule. If your group has a firm deadline, reach out and we can discuss the best timeline.
